Guardians Of The Galaxy – A Cosmic Journey

Guardians2“From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.”

This is the blurb Marvel is using to lure people to their latest chapter in Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But just who are the Guardians? Join us on August 10th, as Brandon, Dante and I explore the history of these characters with the help of Rick Shea, Fawad Siddiqui, and Jerry Fuqua II!

An Ode to Liam Neeson
By Fawad Siddiqui

Liam Neeson Taken+2+Red+Carpet+Premiere+38th+kV11PPjEgahlTaken 2 is a pretty damn funny movie.

This girl, the daughter of Liam Neeson, is in a bikini being honed into the next Liam Neeson, as he instructs her over the phone as Liam Neeson is beaten in a dungeon by some Muslim terrorists. Nice, Beards vs. Bikinis – sums things up pretty well.

Liam Neeson is all of our dads, really if you think about it. He keeps us all safe, all throughout time and space, and various genres. I don’t think he ever masturbates. He’s a real man. And he’s sacrificed his life many times over… multiple lives, in various periods of history. Even in Krull, from Cyclopes’! He controls krakens and is a master of the fuckin’ force!

Brandon Streaming Starbound

Hey folks. I don’t post much, but if you’re interested in checking out the Sandbox game Starbound I’ll be streaming off and on. Starbound The game is still in beta, so sometimes character wipes happen, or things change significantly from day to day with new things being added. Really cool stuff so far. Now, if you dont know what this game is, well, it’s a 2D side-scrolling sandbox game similar in some sense to Minecraft. So yes, it looks old, but it sure is fun. Now how the game is different is (outside of just being 2D) quite a lot. For one there’s a good focus on combat, and questing, with a lot of exploration. You make a character and can visit millions (actually quadrillions) of other planets, all randomly generated. This is what is so cool to me so far, is just the vast amount of stuff I can explore, while still fighting getting new stuff and of course like Minecraft, BUILD! Well, enough rambling (for now, I’m sure Slider will want me to say more), I stream on Twitch, so check it out! Also check out Starbound if you’re interested –

GODZILLA. TRAILER. IS. HERE. And It’s Kinda Awesome!

Dark. Menacing. Exciting. All the things a trailer should be – this trailer delivers! You get a glimpse of the tone of the movie and no major plot points were given away. You see Godzilla, but not so much that you don’t want to see more. This made me even more excited for the May 2014 release. What do you think – are you excited? ARE YOU??? Let us know.

Thanksgiving Day Memes

On Thanksgiving Day I had a bit of time on my hands. As such I went on a bit of a meme-a-thon, as you do… Below are some of the images I subjected the internet to. Enjoy!

R.I.P. <3 - You've Been Replaced

Anyone who spends any time on Internet forums, social media, or just plain old texting knows <3 is the emoticon equivalent to a heart, to signify a love for something – such as:

download (1)

But today (for me at least) that meaning is defunct. Thanks to one of my favorite people on Twitter, Charlotte Moore. Contributor to Dragonwriter: A Tribute to Anne McCaffrey and Pern and Director of the Fantasy Literature track at Dragon*con in Atlanta, Ga., Charlotte is constantly whipping up internet gold 140 characters (or less) at a time. The below exchange is one such time.

In my excitement I followed up with

(Yes, I am aware of the typo’s, bite me)

Shortly thereafter I saw this tweet:

And all I could see was a book Queefing.

So thank you Charlotte Moore, and Twitter, and @PimmsCupPimpCup (whom I don’t know but was part of the exchange and therefore should share in the credit/blame) for forever changing the internet landscape for me.

Oh and if you are interested, you can buy Dragonwriter on Amazon.

My Concerns About What We’re Seeing In Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

AOS Concerns

For the most part, anyone who knows me knows that I tend to love all things Whedon. This started with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the show, not the 1992 film that loosely embodied what he wanted the character to be), continued with Angel, went full tilt with Firefly & SerenityDr. Horrible, and fluttered with Dollhouse. Then Mr. Whedon took to the big screen with arguably the best SuperHero movie ever made (and the 3rd highest grossing film of all time), The Avengers, and in the process became Consigliere for Marvel’s big screen franchises in the process (possibly the smartest move Marvel has ever made). Now Whedon has come back to the small screen with the Marvel Cinematic universe’s spin-off Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which thus far has been pretty solid – and it is this solidity that concerns me.

We all need to remember that while Mr. Whedon is the creative force behind everything I have mentioned, he is not the only one responsible for every episode. There have been many great Whedon alums that penned some of the best episodes we’ve seen. Such marvelous names as Jane Espenson, Marti Noxon, David Fury, Drew Goddard, Tim Minear, and David Greenwalt just to name a few. All of these writers helped to shape the characters that I love – but when the truly heavy hitting was needed – Here comes Joss.
